The objectives of the doctoral dissertation are two-fold: to study in detail the legal aspects of the establishment of the outer limits of the continental shelf and to propose the legal framework upon which the law of the outer limits of the continental shelf should be appreciated.It is important to present a study concerning the legal aspects of the establishment of the outer limits of the continental shelf beyond 200 nm. Literature on the subject matter is sparse. This is understandable since the Commission is in the first years of its existence.
